My Family, My Work, My Paid off Car

Good morning, noon or evening!

I started my Thankful Thursday column to help me right my attitude at least once a week if I was caught either focusing negatively or getting lazy at noticing the blessings I got.  Today, I shall paint with broad brushstrokes.

My Family: Like all families with toddlers and a preschooler, we have typical stress.  At the moment, it’s 6:30 and I’ve been up since around 5:00 due to the internal clock of our twin boys. (I planned on getting up at 5:00 anyway, but so that I could get into the office early). In the words of Dana Carvey, they’re killing me with their cuteness. And I’m so blessed to have two healthy boys and a healthy daughter (still sleeping). And I’m also extremely blessed to have a wife that quarterbacks the house beautifully.

My Work: I place liability and property insurance for nonprofits (and a few other businesses and families).  Working with nonprofits, I get to meet some amazing people doing amazing things.  Just in the last couple months, I’ve worked with an organization that helps low-income individuals and families affected by HIV to find homes.  I’ve worked with couples who give themselves 24/7 caring for the elderly. I work with nonprofits that provide emergency shelter and care to kids. The list goes on from crisis prevention to arts to schools. My job gives me awesome opportunities to meet individuals living out wonderful visions.

My Paid off Car: I don’t have a car payment. Both our cars are paid off. Any time I covet, I’m reminded that no care payment is awesome. (I should also give a big shout-out and thank you to my bro and sis-in-law regarding my Jeep. Thanks Aaron and Melissa!)

What are you thankful for today?

Grats on the car, that’s a huge weight lifted.

Tomorrow, is the 3 year anniversary of me meeting my wife. We are celebrating with lunch at the same place we met,, but doing it today as tomorrow I’m out of town working. I’m thankful for Bobina and the kids. They all changed my life.

Saturday is the one year anniversary of my blog. It’s changed my writing from good to better than good. It’s also been a way for me to relax, get piece of mind, and meet cool people.

    Have a good day.

      Lance–
Congrats on 3 yrs of knowing the love of your life! Hope the lunch was fun.

Congrats on the blog, also. You are wonderfully consistent–both in quantity and quality. Love some of those nuggets and the encouragement not to get lazy on the music tip.

    Brett,

Great post. I feel you on so many levels… I don’t have kids yet, but I consider my wife blessing… I also work with Not-for-Profits and helping them in any way makes being an Insurance Agent meaningful.

Lastly, not having a Car payment is amazing! Congrats on so many blessings!

      Ryan–
Thanks, by the way, for your enthusiasm for the craft (and by craft I’m referring to throwing your all into being an insurance expert).

And on the car. It’s great. We haven’t had a payment in over 2 years, and when I get tempted to get something new, I remind myself how much NOT writing that check is awesome.
